After over 10hours on the road from Kathmandu to Pohkara and a frantic hour repacking bags, shower and no sleep, we got on a plane for Jomsom. A short flight of about 20mins with some nice view on the way. Arrived in sunny Jomsom, 2700m, from Pokhara, 900m, looking for some sleep but that is still a couple of hours away in Kagbeni. YOu can see one of the Nilgiri Himal peaks greeting us(probably Nilgiri North 7061m) from the airport tarmac. One of the effect you notice flying from 900m to 2700m is that your heart rate shoots up for any physical exertion, like going up a short flight of stairs.
The short trek to Kagbeni from the airport, goes through Old Jomsom and after leaving Jomsom, we start following the Kali Gandaki river north. Kali Gandaki river to the south also holds the deepest gorge in the world, nestled between Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) on the west and Annapurna I (8,091 m) on the east. Everyday by late morning, stiff winds will start up and with the road/track construction going on, there are mini dust storms happening. There is plenty of road contruction going on as they are building a road(unpaved by the looks of it) connecting China to Jomsom.
Winds at the bridge just before Kagbeni and in the teahouse we were overnightning In Kagbeni.
